Job Purpose
The Project Accountant serves as a vital connection between field operations, project management teams, and the finance department to ensure the seamless financial management of construction projects. This role is responsible for overseeing cash flow activities, including AR billings, change order submissions, and job payables, ensuring timely execution to prevent disruptions to project finances. Additionally, the Project Accountant monitors and analyzes financial data, prepares detailed reports, and identifies trends to support informed decision-making. By reviewing payables and supporting collections efforts, this role ensures the smooth receipt of payments and upholds financial accountability across all departments. Through consistent communication and collaboration, the Project Accountant plays an integral role in delivering construction projects on schedule and within budget.
Duties and Responsibilities – All Entities
- Communication: Assist the VP of Field Ops. & Director of Field Ops in communicating among project stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members.
- Contributing to the planning and development of projects.
- Collaborating with project managers, field operations leadership, and finance teams to ensure all items related to cash flow, including AR billings, change order submittals, job payables, and project workflows, are addressed promptly and efficiently.
- Conducting thorough reviews of job payables to prevent delays in cash receipts and maintain the smooth financial flow of projects. Researching additional job financial information as required.
- Performing administrative tasks such as preparing invoices, estimates, scheduling meetings, etc.
- Accurate and timely submission of Accounts Receivable billings. Put billing packages together, ensure billing deadlines are met, and proactively track and support collection efforts with routine follow ups to ensure receipt of payments, and provide real time information to finance team.
- Tracking, analyzing, and reporting on project financials, including real-time data comparison against performance thresholds, to identify trends and enhance decision making.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive financial reports for construction projects, including cost allocations, budget updates, and variance analysis.
- Completing any tasks assigned by leadership in an efficient and timely manner.
- Distribute project status reports, meeting minutes, and other documentation as required.
- Maintain project folder in SharePoint
- Review and evaluate project-related paperwork, including contracts for a complete understanding of payment terms, retentions, preliminary information, etc.
- Assist the project management team in tracking all extra work and creating documents as it relates to change order documentation and billings.
- Manage all Lien Releases.
- Manage cash requirements and projections to support projects.
- Maintain retention spreadsheets, updating weekly statuses for RCO meetings; and Monthly CTC – Cost to complete reporting.
- Acting as the financial liaison across departments to ensure consistent communication and adherence to financial standards for project delivery.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, business administration, or 4 years of related work experience.
- Experience: Previous experience in a construction-related analyst role is advantageous.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project), Bluebeam, HCSS (HeavyJob), project management software, and document management systems.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and accuracy in managing documentation and financial records.
- Problem-solving: Ability to identify issues and propose solutions in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Team Player: Collaborative attitude and willingness to work as part of a team to achieve project goals.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Knowledge: Understand construction processes, terminology, and regulations is desirable.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
