This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of crane activities in construction, lifting, and heavy machinery operations. The ideal candidate will possess both technical skills and the physical ability to work safely at high altitudes.
Responsibilities
- Climbing and Rigging: Climb cranes to perform inspections, maintenance, or rigging activities at height. Ensure proper attachment and securing of loads for crane lifting operations. Work closely with the crane operator to ensure smooth communication during lifts.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Inspect crane structures, cables, and other components to ensure they are functioning correctly. Identify and report any wear, tear, or potential mechanical failures to the maintenance team. Conduct basic repairs or maintenance tasks under supervision.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety protocols and regulations are followed during climbing, rigging, and working with cranes. Use safety harnesses, fall arrest systems, and other protective gear when working at height. Monitor weather conditions to assess potential risks before beginning crane climbing activities.
- Team Coordination: Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, and other workers on-site to ensure safe and effective lifting operations. Communicate clearly and effectively with the team regarding load specifications and procedures. Assist in planning lifts, ensuring the proper setup and execution of crane movements.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and any issues encountered with cranes. Report on the operational status of cranes and any necessary actions taken to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Training & Development: Participate in regular safety and skill-based training to stay current on best practices. Learn to operate cranes if necessary, and advance in crane-related certifications.
Qualifications
- Physical Ability: Must be able to work at heights and in challenging conditions.
- Climbing Skills: Experience climbing cranes or similar structures, with a strong understanding of safety procedures.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with crane components, rigging equipment, and maintenance procedures.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of fall protection systems, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety regulations.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with team members, including crane operators and other workers.
- Certifications: May require certification for climbing or rigging (e.g., OSHA, NCCCO, or similar).
- Experience: Previous experience in a construction or industrial environment with cranes or heavy machinery is highly desirable.
- Preferred Qualifications: Crane operation certification, CDL A license, previous experience in crane inspections or rigging operations, First Aid and CPR certification.
