The HSE Specialist reports to Site HSE Manager and is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, of the site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities as part of the overall deployment of the regional HSE program with a focuse on Environmental aspects. Through the development of an overall Safety and Environmental Management System, Mars has embedded this value into the organization. The site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist plays an essential role in this management system through hands-on execution of the Global/Regional HSE Standards, fostering a robust HSE culture with emphasis on environmental sustainability and driving associate involvement.

What are we looking for?
Minimum
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related discipline And/Or
- 3 years Experience applying or leading environmental policy in manufacturing setting
- Ability to interact with site level manufacturing/business management, and regulatory agencies
- Highly motivated, self starter with a proven track record in driving environmental excellence in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to influence without direct control and steer an organization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership in driving continuous improvement environmental initiatives
- Ability to multi-task in a very dynamic work environment
- Good working knowledge of EPA, DOT, OSHA regulations
- Ability to Analyst data to drive discussions and make informed decisions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and establish strong relationships with regulatory agencies
- Master's Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistty, or related discipline
- Comfort delivering training to all levels of associates
- Basic knowledge of food manufacturing and GMP
- Accountable for the execution of all site Environmental Permit Compliance, including Air, Stormwater, Water, Spill Control, and Wastewater. Ensures permit required activities and reports are submitted in a timely manner.
- Executes proper management of the sites hazardous waste management activities to ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, local and company regulations and standards.
- Maintains the onsite environmental manuals and updates according to Mars standard and schedule.
- Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drives completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence and ensures corrective actions are effectively implemented, this includes execution of corrective actions developed from other site incidents.
- Serves as the site level environmental technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function including capital project review and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.
- Manages and uses a data driven approach to manage, modify and prioritize site HSE direction. Shares and uses data to influence, motivate, measure and drive continuous improvement. Upwardly communicate performance toward company goals for safety and the environment.
- Supports audit efforts to maintain and improve favorable insurance ratings.
