Mars Museum Collections Management Internship Experience

As a Mars Museum Collections Management Intern, you will gain exposure to the following areas:

• Assist in bringing greater intellectual and physical control to the historical collections of Mars, Inc. based in their global corporate headquarters in McLean, Virginia.
• Collaborate with Collections Manager/Registrar and Curator to inventory, catalogue, and digitize standing collections:
• Ensure proper preparation, storage, and re-housing of collections for their long-term preservation. 
• Enter data into excel spreadsheets for bulk upload into the Museum’s collections management database and collections website.
• Research into the history of material culture and Mars history as needed.
• Inventory, digitization, rehousing, cataloging and other functions of collections management..
  
  

What we’re looking for:

• Candidates must be enrolled in or a recent graduate of a graduate program.
• Previous experience with museum collections preferred.
• Knowledge of collections management databases.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of proper archival and collections management techniques.
• Self-starter that can work independently.
• Be creative and a problem solver.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
• Open to students legally authorized to work in the U.S., without the need for current or future work status authorization or visa sponsorship for employment.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of drug & background screening.
• Eligible candidates will be responsible for personal transportation to and from work site during duration of the internship program.
