Position Summary:

MarshBerry is currently seeking a Small Business Placement Specialist to join our Richmond, Virginia office. The Small Business Placement Specialist will focus on marketing, quoting, and binding new business accounts within the Small Business Unit, supporting all territories for small commercial new business. As part of the marketing effort, this role will serve as a liaison between the retail agent and carrier, providing excellent service to all FirstChoice members and partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Review new business submissions and triage appropriately. Identify the best opportunities as well as accounts to decline due to eligibility, appetite, timeline, etc. within established procedures and timeline.
  • Use a commercial comparative rater to market new business based on the applicant’s risk profile and geographic location. Prepare carrier-generated proposals and communicate results to agency members.
  • Maintain knowledge of basic underwriting skills, insurance regulations, best practices, and carrier appetites. Educate member agents regarding commercial insurance coverages, needs, and pricing.
  • Maintain a suspense system to proactively follow-up on quotes, member correspondence, and any outstanding items to bind policies and successfully close new business.
  • Maintain electronic files in an orderly manner as prescribed in the FirstChoice standard operating procedures.
  • Provide timely, courteous, and professional customer service to all FirstChoice members and partners.
  • Contribute to individual and team written premium goals.
  • Other special projects, tasks, or duties as assigned by Management.

Selection Criteria

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’ degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management or related field or the equivalent of 3-5 years of P&C insurance experience with agency or brokerage experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in commercial lines insurance.
  • PC license required. Insurance related designation a plus (CLCS, CPCU, CIC, ARM)
  • Experience using CRM tools such as SalesForce, Applied/Epic or another AMS platform.
  • Prior use of rating platforms, particularly within commercial lines (Semsee, Bold Penguin).
  • Experience working in an intermediary role, connecting customers with solutions.
  • Program management experience a plus.

  • Collaboration: Proactively seeks opportunities to work with peers and be part of a team. Capable of completing a task or project in conjunction with others. Appropriately includes others in the decision-making process.
  • Confidentiality: Maintains privacy of proprietary information in internal and external communications.
  • Accountability and Responsibility: Willingly accepts responsibility for the results of one's actions or behaviors. Explicitly claims ownership of, takes action, and answers for consequences, both positive and negative.
  • Integrity: Upholds the highest ethical standards in one's behaviors and activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
