GENERAL SUMMARY
To provide emergency and non-emergency care and ambulance transportation for the citizens of Marshall County.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Check unit for mechanical adjustments such as oil, water, brakes, taxes, tires, etc. (daily)
Check all supplies in unit and restock daily.
Clean units each morning inside and outside including ambulance bay. Clean living quarters and storage room each night.
Weekly cleaning of entire building including mopping floors, windows, etc.
Making ambulance calls as needed.
- Establish and maintain a patient airway
- Administer intermittent positive – pressure ventilation
- Perform C.P.R
- Control accessible bleeding
- Treat shock
- Care for cases of poisoning
- Dress and bandage wounds
- Splint fractures
- Provide obstetrical assistance
- Care for newborn infants, including the premature
- Administer 02
- Emergency and defensive driving
- Controlling the scene of illness or injury
- Proper extrication
- Maintenance and use of supplies
- Verbal and written communications
- Coping with medicolegal problems
- Careful evaluations of all signs and symptoms
- Proper usage of the automatic advisory defibrillator (IF APPLICABLE)
- Maintain and monitor patients with IV infusions (IF APPLICABLE)
All reports to be completed following each run; PCR, PCS, Signature Form, etc.
Answer phone, receive ambulance calls from dispatch, and maintain skills and credentials according to department policy.
Check supplies and medications daily for expiration date and quantities
Sign drug logbook
Check/maintain ALS equipment in accordance with established policies and protocols
Maintain a high level of skill (as determined by the service director and medical director) in the following areas:
IV therapy, drug administration, endotracheal intubation, 3-lead & 12-lead EKG interpretation, defibrillation/cardioversion, cricothyrotomy and other procedures approved in department protocols
Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent
Current unrestricted operator license
Clean criminal background
Must be at least 18 years of age and be legally eligible for employment in the United States
Must hold a current paramedic license from the Kentucky Board of EMS
Must hold current CPR certification
Must be certified in PALS and ACLS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must be physically able to lift and carry patients and equipment repeatedly throughout the shift
Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads safely in an uncontrolled environment and on rough and/or slick terrain
Able to stoop, bend, and use good body mechanics
Must successfully complete a pre-work physical agility test for ambulance personnel
Must be able to communicate well with patients, family, visitors, physicians, police, and coworkers in the English language
You will come in contact with various infectious diseases
You will be exposed to various hazardous materials and must be able to wear and utilize several different types of personal protective equipment
