Description
Marshall Farms Engine Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, or repair of systems to include diesel, gas, and alternative fuel system configurations.
The Engine Technician will perform maintenance and diagnostics on primarily diesel vehicles and equipment.
The hours are typically Monday-Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm.
This position participates in the Vehicle Maintenance On-Call rotation.
Essential Tasks:
- Performs complex main engine, engine ignition, fuel system, and engine emission control system diagnosis to pinpoint and analyze malfunctions in engines.
- Use a variety of testing methods/equipment, such as onboard and hand-held diagnostic computers or compression gauges, to identify the source of the problem. Determine whether components are salvageable, or replacement is required.
- Repair, adjust, and maintain systems to include diesel, gas, and alternative fuel system configurations.
- Performs complex diagnosis and repair of automatic, standard, and electronic transmission mechanical and control systems, to include standard transmission clutch operating systems, transaxle and transfer case systems, and all phases of final drive operation.
- Performs complex diagnosis and repair of various types of suspension, steering, power assist, and alignment systems; diagnoses and repairs various types of brake systems, to include hydraulic systems, disc and drum brake applications, air brake systems, and anti-lock brake systems operation.
- Performs complex general electrical and electronic system diagnosis and repair, to include starting and charging systems, electrical wiring systems, gauges and warning systems, and accessory systems, diagnoses and repairs ventilation systems, heat and air conditioning systems, refrigerant recovery, and mechanical systems
- Perform preventive routine maintenance, to ensure that equipment will operate safely and eliminating unnecessary wear on, and damage to, parts.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental and environmental practices.
- Adapt to new technologies.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Other duties as specified by management.
Requirements
Education/License/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED; and participation in trade and vocational program or ASE Certification;
NYS Driver’s License,
CDL Class B license.
Competency Requirements:
Individual is capable of effectively and consistently performing essential tasks and knowledgeable in areas required by State and/or Federal Agencies (i.e., Freon Recovery/Emission Inspection, OSHA).

Work Conditions & Special Requirements
Work Conditions:
Duties are performed primarily on 1st shift with varying extended hours including occasional weekend work. Work may involve exposure to elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or a high level of noise requiring earplugs and a respirator.
Physical Requirement:
Physical Requirements include manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and considerable use of arms and legs. Work may be strenuous at times. Engine Technicians may lift heavy parts and tools, handle greasy and dirty parts, and stand or lie in awkward positions to repair vehicles and equipment.
Mental Requirement:
Individual is capable of effectively receiving, understanding and applying written and oral instructions.
Pay grade for this position is an F6 with an hourly pay range of $24.31- $36.48/hr - Compensation is based on experience!
We provide all tools and a footwear allowance ($100 per year).
