Rivers Health is seeking a Per-diem phlebotomist for the Outreach Operations in the Charleston, WV area.
As a Per-diem phlebotomist, you will be responsible for providing phlebotomy services to outreach facilities and nursing homes on a regular scheduled basis. You will deliver specimens to the laboratory department and assist with registration and distribution of obtained specimens within department standards and hospital policies and procedures.
A high level of confidentiality is required for this position.
Essential Job Functions
- You will obtain patient lab requisitions and collect specimens as ordered by physicians.
- You will use established direct identification processes prior to collecting specimens.
- You will obtain specimens in appropriate containers for testing.
- You will provide phlebotomy/courier services to outside accounts using private or corporate-owned vehicles.
- You will ensure that adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated volumes of testing. You will check par-levels at nursing facilities and restock as needed.
- You will follow safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital and department policies and procedures.
- You will participate in all mandated inservice programs on an annual basis.
- You will demonstrate excellence in customer service skills.
- You will foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
- You will participate in performance improvement (PI) processes.
- You may be assigned other duties.
The hours of work will vary due to allocation for travel time to nursing facilities and draw times of ordered specimens. Start times will begin at the first work site and continue until returning to your primary residence. Employees are responsible for notifying the office of any changes in address.
Education and Formal Training
Completion of high school or equivalent (plus certification by ASCP desirable) is required. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is also necessary.
Work Experience
Three to six months of experience is preferred.
