Rivers Health PRN Phlebotomist Job Description
This job requires a skilled phlebotomist to work in the hospital laboratory on a per-diem basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collecting Specimens: Collect blood samples from patients while adhering to the hospital's guest relations policy, using at least two identifiers for each patient.
- Sample Processing: Identify, accession, and distribute samples within the department's policy and procedure framework.
- Testing Preparation: Prepare blood samples for external testing by shipping them via suitable carriers (e.g., DHL, Airborne, FedEx, US Mail).
- Supply Management: Ensure sufficient supplies are available to meet expected testing volumes.
- Infection Control and Safety: Follow laboratory and hospital policies regarding safety and infection control.
Additional Duties:
- Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and maintain a positive attitude when interacting with patients and colleagues.
- Teamwork: Foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among staff members.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement activities, including serving on designated teams.
Requirements:
- Education: Completion of high school or equivalent, preferably with certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). A valid driver's license with a good driving record is also required.
- Phlebotomy Training: Completion of a licensed phlebotomy training program.
- Experience: No prior experience is necessary, but three to six months of experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform venous, capillary, and arterial punctures; read and understand laboratory instruction manuals; and communicate effectively with patients of various ages.
