POSITION SUMMARY
The RN First Assistant (RNFA) will directly assist the surgeon during surgical procedures in the operating room. The RNFA will assist with control of bleeding, providing wound exposure, suturing, and other surgical tasks. The RNFA practices peri-operative nursing and must have acquired the necessary training and skills to perform as a first assistant. The RNFA will practice under the supervision of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of perioperative patient care.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
- Current Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification required.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- RN First Assistant certification (CRNFA)
Knowledge/Experience:
- Five years perioperative RN or RNFA experience required.
- Completion of the organization’s credentialing process
Skills:
- Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish the duties of an RNFA and able to meet the pharmacology requirements of MMC.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of surgical procedures.
- Computer familiarity required.
