What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) position at Marshall Middle School?
This position is 20 hours per week and is until approximately June 13, 2025.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education, Building Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is a health/educational professional assistant who has completed a two-year technical assistance program, has successfully completed the National Certification Examination for COTA’s, and is currently certified for practice by the National Board for certification in Occupational Therapy. Individual state certification is required. The COTA works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
JOB DUTIES:
•Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
•Written communication and/or participation in student’s education meetings.
•Provision of direct instruction.
•Teacher and/or parent communication regarding student’s progress.
•Regular reporting of student’s progress towards attaining individualized goals and objectives/benchmarks.
•Regular reporting to the supervising OTR regarding the documentation of student progress through progress monitoring and observation data.
•Develop and implement intervention strategies and direct instruction.
•Assist teachers, staff and/or parents to use adaptive equipment, adaptive equipment strategies and/or exercise programs which enable students to function within the academic and school environment.
•Adheres to all Federal, state and district regulations and procedures.
•Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
