What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Marshall University?
- This position is responsible for the administration of student financial assistance revenue requests including the receipt and distribution of funds from the U.S. Department of Education, State of WV, institutional and private sources. Financial aid revenue is received via ACH, wires and checks from multiple outside bank accounts for distribution to students in the form of refunds and to the university general ledger accounts as institutional revenue.
- This position assists in providing accurate and secure receipting, processing and reporting of student fees and departmental revenue.
- This position requires cross training in various aspects of collections, contracts, exemptions, fee assessment and refund policies, campus based, state, private and federal loan programs and financial statement accounting and reporting.

Required Qualifications
Education
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related business field.
Experience
- A minimum of one year of related progressive accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 1-2 years of related progressive accounting experience.
Experience
A working knowledge of an accounting and/or reporting software. Prior customer service and/or cashiering experience is preferred. Prior financial aid experience preferred.
