Job Description
The College Access Advisor will identify eligible participants; assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive services and activities to motivate and develop necessary skills to complete a program of secondary education and enroll in a post-secondary institution and provide academic advisement and other services as outlined in the HATS Grant Proposal.
Essential Job Functions :
1. Identify eligible program participants
2. Facilitate and promote the delivery of individual and group academic support services to program participants
3. Provide information and support for post-secondary education, financial aid, academic assessment, career exploration, college tours, cultural activities, mentoring and tutoring.
4. Assist students and parents / guardians in completing applications for postsecondary programs
5. Plan, design, facilitate, promote, and present programs and activities for participants and parents / guardians
6. Maintain accurate, confidential, and well-documented participant files in accordance with the federal guidelines and HATS policies and procedures
7. Conduct workshops and presentations for target schools and the community
8. Establish working relationships with middle and high schools in Mason and Wayne Counties
9. Develop partnerships with post-secondary institutions and community-based agencies
10. Supervise field trips and college visits
11. Travel to target schools, off-campus sites, and professional development training occasionally.
Other duties as assigned to implement services outlined in the Heart of Appalachia Talent Search grant proposal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
1. Awareness of Federal TRIO Programs and how the Heart of Appalachia Talent Search Program fits within this structure
2. Understanding of financial aid and admissions process
3. Grasp of concepts related to college entrance exams
4. Experience conducting workshops, advising, and / or providing information about higher education
5. Knowledge of school population at target schools
6. Ability to create and maintain partnerships
7. Capable of conducting presentations and workshops
8. Understanding of working with low-income and first-generation students and families
9. Work as part of a team and exhibit strong Communication Skills
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality
11. Strong time management and organizational skills
12. Proficiency in using technology. Particularly : Microsoft Office, Banner or like databases, BLUMEN or like databases as well as budget management software
Willingness to work nights, evenings, weekends, and overnight events occasionally.
Preference given to applicants from a first-generation college and low-income backgrounds

Salary Range
38,000- $45,000- Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelors degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Mental Health.
Experience
Three or more years working in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Mental Health. Experience working with students in K12 and STEM.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
Masters degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Mental Health or a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
Experience
Certificate of training in the areas of ACT, SAT, and Financial Aid Performance
Experience advising TRIO projects participants, preferred
