The mission of the Foundation is to support and promote the activities and programs of Marshall University. This is accomplished by providing advice and counsel regarding philanthropy and fundraising, managing gifts and pledges on behalf of the university and providing a strong base of private-sector support for the university.POSITION SUMMARYUnder the general leadership of the Foundation’s Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Director of Philanthropy is charged with raising private gifts for the university. This position's primary responsibility is to cultivate, solicit and steward gift prospects and donors capable of making major gifts. The Director of Philanthropy will manage a donor prospect base and will be expected to meet or exceed the organization’s defined development activity performance goals.Consistent with the Foundation’s and the University’s Strategic Plan, the Director of Philanthropy will pursue fundraising opportunities for University and Foundation priorities as they develop and as appropriate to match donor interest to University and Foundation needs.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Works closely with the Chief Development Officer and Development staff, university deans, faculty and key volunteers to pursue a coordinated and strategic program of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donor prospects.* Manage a major gift prospect portfolio of current, lapsed and prospective donors with the capacity to make gifts greater than $25,000.* Develop and implement strategies, proposals and presentations for building and maintaining long term fundraising relationships with donor prospects.* Document contacts and strategies using the moves management system.* Adhere to the Foundation's policies and procedures for accepting, recording and acknowledging gifts and pledges.* Monitor expenditures against an approved budget.* Participate as a full member of the advancement team attending prospect management meetings, professional development activities and other staff meetings as appropriate.* Pursue professional growth activities with the approval of the Chief Development Officer.Located in Southwestern West Virginia, which is a land of rich heritage, unparalleled beauty and warm hospitality.
