What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rail Ramp Manager position at Marten Transport?
PURPOSE:
The Rail Ramp Manager will manage day to day activities within a region/regions to support sales, marketing, intermodal and overall company strategies and goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Daily communication link to driver including, but not limited to, load information, advances/po's, planning of loads, coordinating maintenance on equipment, and driver performance counseling
-Effective management of rail ramp and driver utilization for maximum efficiencies and cost control measures through planning, dispatching, tracking, and communication. Categories include, but not limited to: On time tracking and performance, equipment tracking and utilization, driver availability, hours of service compliance, special routing needs, accessorial cost control, driver pay management, and driver quality of life.
-Coordinate promptly and logically the planning of load pick ups, deliveries, and shuttle moves along with the billing of intermodal loads through intermodal programs and websites
-Track intermodal shipments through various rail websites to ensure on time performance
-Manage and report ramp activity including, but not limited to, revenue, costs, and driver efficiencies.
-Accurately analyze driver and equipment utilization and have the ability to increase performance and efficiencies.
-Educate driver processes for entering a rail ramp, exiting a rail ramp and the procedures at the rail ramps including, but not limited to, ingate/outgate proceedures, equipment damage procedures, ramp schedules, loading procedures, and reefer set procedures in accordance with both rail line and customer expectations.
-Manage and communicate regional trailer balances with team leader as well as other Marten businesses.
-Train/Cross train within the intermodal department as needed
