Job Description
MOBC’s Academic Student Unions (ASUs) support students at Stratford, Maplewood, and Hunter’s Lane High Schools. AmeriCorps members provide students with academic and / or senior case management that cultivates skills and habits necessary to graduate from high school and persist in post-secondary plans.

The Martha O’Bryan Center (MOBC) empowers children, youth, and adults in poverty, to transform their lives through work, education, employment, and fellowship. The Center cannot service the community alone, so we partner with organizations like AmeriCorps, to fulfill our mission.
AmeriCorps members serve 1700 hours over the course of 11 months with Martha O'Bryan Center, gaining hands-on experience working with families, youth, and community members. The crucial components of the MOBC—AmeriCorps years of service program allow you to build your community and professional skills, thereby propelling you towards the next steps in your career and life.

Hours : 9 am – 5 : 30 pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide individualized tutoring and social support to high school students
Support student growth by creating goals and implementing strategies
Lead enrichment activities for students based on members’ individual gifts and talents
Build relationships with a cohort of students
Strengthen the relationship between school, child, and parent
Plan and implement activities with teens and families
Assist with student recruitment and engagement
Provide hands-on academic assistance to students daily
Attend occasional parent, school, and staff meetings
Maintain up-to-date progress notes and data for student case management
Participate in AmeriCorps professional development and community-building workshops

Qualifications
Required
Over 18 years of age
High School diploma or GED
Legally eligible to work in U.S. (you can see the requirements here)
Pass a background check to work with vulnerable populations
Preferred :
Interest in education
Willingness to work with teenagers
Experience in education or Bachelor’s degree in any field
Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other digital databases
Physical Demands & Accessibility
Must pass a State of Tennessee childcare physical, including :
Ability to lift 40 lbs
Agility to move quickly to keep pace with young children
Stamina to remain alert and energetic for 8 hours
Salary : $19,100
