Thrift Shop Sales Associate
JOB SUMMARY:
The Thrift Shop Sales Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to both customers and donors. This role involves assisting with the intake and processing of donations, ensuring smooth daily store operations, managing sales transactions, and maintaining store organization and cleanliness.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (*)
- Retail
- Greet and assist customers as they enter and leave the store, providing guidance and answering questions.
- Accurately process sales transactions, handling cash, credit/debit payments, gift cards, and MVCS Client Cards, and providing receipts or change as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming sales floor.
- Processing
- Welcome and assist donors with the donation process, answering questions and referring to Leads or Management when appropriate.
- Process, price, and display donations daily, ensuring all items are neatly arranged and adequately stocked.
- Research item values and create appealing merchandise displays as needed.
- Maintain clean and organized processing areas.
- Administrative/Other
- Follow the Daily Assignment Log and complete assigned tasks.
- Enter donation and processing data into ThriftTrac system.
- Perform general cleaning duties, including shelves, counters, tables, and floors, as needed.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment for staff and customers inside and outside the store.
- Support donation pickups, deliveries, and special events as needed.
- Help create content for social media, showcasing the store and its activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) and stand for extended periods.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to remain composed and friendly under pressure.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively.
- Basic technology proficiency (email, internet) and experience using retail software.
- Prior retail or public-facing experience is a plus.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to contribute to a fun, team-oriented work environment.
EXPERIENCE LEVELS:
- Level 1: 0–3 years of experience at Chicken Alley, no prior retail experience required.
- Level 2: 2 years of outside retail experience (or equivalent) or 3 years at Chicken Alley without prior retail experience.
- Level 3: 4 years of experience at Chicken Alley.
SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS:
This position requires work and availability outside of traditional business hours including weekends, evenings and holidays.
