Position Overview
The Can Operation Laborer is responsible for unloading all pick-up trailers, making sure recycling operations are completed daily and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Unload cans on all pick-up trailers
- Check daily bid sheets to confirm pick-up loads running daily
- Check condition of pick-up trailers returning to plant
- Ensure that all glass products are removed from pick-up vehicles by forklift operator
- Oversee and participate in all phases of recycling including unloading, bailer operation, and cleanup operations
- Oversee the storage and shipping of aluminum, plastic, and cardboard bails
- Nightly equipment and work area cleanup
- Weekly cleanup of pick-up equipment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: To perform at a proficient level and be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:
- Ability to demonstrate effective use of safety rules including proper lifting.
- Ability to lift cases averaging 40 lbs.
- Ability to operate two-wheeled hand truck, occasionally pushing/pulling weights exceeding 60lb
- Forklift experience a plus, but not necessary
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Basic computer experience or knowledge a plus
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
