What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator-Public Works position at Martin County Board of County Commissioners?
Semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of moderately complex public works equipment. Duties include performance of manual laboring tasks.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

May operate one or more of the following over the workday:
A. Farm tractor with flat mower or boom mower
B. Dump truck
C. Garbage Truck (End Loader)
D. Flat Bed Truck
E. Tractor mower or truck tractor
F. ULV machines, Pumps, Generators, etc.
G. Other similar equipment
Occasionally operates smaller equipment and other light equipment.
Operates heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency or trainee basis.
Washes and cleans and gives routine first echelon maintenance to the equipment.
Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned.
Performs work related to this job description as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of medium and heavy public works equipment.
Knowledge of the component parts, operating principles and maintenance needs of medium and heavy equipment.
Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of equipment.
Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment
Ability to service various types of relatively heavy equipment.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Physical strength and agility sufficient to operate equipment over rough terrain and to perform manual labor occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
Must possess a High School Diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and one (1) year experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the type of equipment of primary assignment. Final decision of appointment to the job will be based on applicant's ability to physically operate, drive and perform the illustrated tasks inscribed herein.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License Class C, D, or E at time of hire.
Possession of CDL-B with tank vehicle endorsement and no restrictions on air brakes preferred at time of hire.
Must obtain CDL-B with tank vehicle endorsement and no restriction on air brakes within ninety (90) days of hire.
