Skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment and machinery relative to lift station systems.   

Work involves the application of electrical, mechanical trade knowledge in implementing a program of inspection and maintenance for the wastewater lift pump station plants.  General work involving repair and maintenance on industrial-type electrical services (motor, switch gear and electronics) and related equipment in County lift station facilities.  General work in the maintenance and repair of lift station instrumentation control systems.

This position may require you to have a take-home vehicle for purposes of responding to departmental emergency situations. An employee is covered under the County’s auto insurance policy when operating the vehicle in the scope of his or her employment. Employees are encouraged to purchase a rider of endorsement to their personal automobile policy to provide coverage for operating a County vehicle for personal use including driving to and from work.


In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Installs and maintains mechanical and electrical equipment in lift stations and water and wastewater plants.  


Inspects and services electrical equipment in pump stations and water and wastewater plants.


Assists in operating and maintaining collection system and water and wastewater plants, including all motors, pumps, valves, etc.   


Checks, cleans, oils, greases, adjusts and performs major repair jobs on varied and complex machinery.  

Starts and stops pumps, operates accessory equipment.   


Reads and records gauges and meters, change charts, collects samples, performs prescribed tests and maintains extensive records.  


Works with customers and contractors. 


Installation and maintenance of electrical service lines and branch circuits, lights and equipment in various County lift station facilities.  


Maintenance of County lift station facilities, trouble shooting and analysis of electrical problems, including emergency power generating sets.  


Performs protractive repairs in lieu of emergency repairs and preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.


Maintains accurate records and performs work related to this job description as required. 


Assists in maintaining lift station telemetry radio systems.  


Analyzes problems and takes appropriate action to resolve.  


Performs general preventative maintenance and tests on lift station electronic equipment.  


Keeps diagnostic records and comprehensive back up materials on all work performed.  


Installation and maintenance of electrical service lines and branch circuits, lights and equipment in various County facilities.  


Maintenance of lighting systems at County facilities, trouble shooting and analysis of electrical problems, including emergency power generating sets.  


Performs work related to this job description as required.  


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of pumps, machinery, motors and their electrical controls.


General knowledge of National Electrical Code requirements, as well as general knowledge of electrical installation and maintenance. 


General knowledge of the installation and maintenance of lift station electronic instrumentation.


General knowledge of electronic circuitry, computer.


Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work.


Dexterity to perform manual labor connected with his/her primary electrical duties.


Ability to maintain effective working relationships and to verbally report on electrical problems and corrective repairs.


Ability to work effectively without close supervision and to make minor decisions pertaining to work problems.


Able to locate, define and repair potential problem spots and report them promptly.


Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions involving maintenance and repair electrical and mechanical equipment relative to wastewater/water systems.


Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.


Ability to diagnose electrical problems and effectuate corrective repairs.


Ability to determine improper operation of equipment and to take proper remedial action.


Ability to follow oral and written directions.


Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and diagrams.


Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.


Ability to lift items weighing 50 pounds.


Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with customers, subordinates, peers and supervisors.


Ability to effectively handle adverse situations.


Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions and to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.

Ability to operate a personal computer and word processing software.


Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and four (4) years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of machinery, pumps and electric motors.

Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.


Possession of a Florida Commercial B Driver’s License preferred.


Must hold and maintain an Electrician Journeyman License.
