The Senior Parks Services Specialist is distinguished from the Parks Services Specialist by the level and scope of responsibility over employees and additional specialized assignments. Depending on the assigned area the Senior Parks Services Specialist has oversight of various additional community activities related to the assigned specialized park and recreation areas and is the lead worker in the event the Lead Parks Services Specialist or Parks Supervisor are absent, requiring greater skill and independence than lower level classes in the series.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Care of athletic and common area turf and ornamentals according to established standards; controls turf and ornamental pests based on Integrated Pest Management principles; fertilizes turf and ornamentals.
Operates equipment such as mowers, tractors with attachments, utility vehicles, specialized athletic turf and athletic field/court equipment, string trimmers, edger's, blowers, sod cutters, chainsaws, power pole pruners, hedgers, pressure washers, janitorial and other related equipment.
Drives light and heavy trucks sometimes pulling equipment trailers.
Assists in maintaining, repairing, assembling and installing park structures, features, and amenities.
Carpentry, painting, roofing, concrete and plumbing in the construction maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, irrigation systems and other installations.
Inspection, operation, servicing and repair of irrigation systems.
Picks up trash, litter and fallen limbs; cuts and trims grassy areas; waters and weeds flower beds and other plantings.
Cleans restrooms, picnic shelters, sites and recreation areas.
Cleans roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, boardwalks and dune crossovers.
Operates and performs routine maintenance, preventative maintenance and minor repairs to power equipment such as mowers, string trimmers, debris blowers and chain saws.
Completes daily work management reports relating to time and materials.
May perform and record safety and quality inspections.
May assist in irrigation and/or application of fertilizers/herbicides/pesticides as requested by supervisor.
Assist in maintaining accurate records in conformance with established procedures to ensure projects are completed accurately and according to schedule.
Assist in inspecting park lands, playgrounds, structures and other park facilities for potential safety hazards.
Assists in ensuring adequate and timely surveillance to facilities to remove and or repair any potentially hazardous conditions.
Assumes lead worker responsibilities as requested by supervisor.

Ability to operate large equipment such as mowers, tractors with attachments, aerial lifts devices, utility vehicles, specialized athletic turf and athletic field/court equipment.

Must possess a High School diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance or construction with a demonstrated proficiency in at least two of the following areas: turf ornamental and landscaping, equipment operation, facilities maintenance, construction, or irrigation.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
May be required to obtain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License of a class appropriate to job assignment.
May be required to obtain Limited Certification for Governmental Pesticide Applicators within (6) months of hire depending on job assignment.
May be required to obtain a Certified Pool Operators license within (6) months of hire depending on job assignment.
