Incumbent serves as Field Officer for Martin County Community Corrections, responsible for monitoring program participants assigned to home detention and work release program.
- Enforces local, state, and laws by implementing effective policies to protect the lives and property of the people.
- Monitors home detention and work release program participants, maintaining record of contacts, picking up time sheets and forwarding to appropriate of-lice, ensuring compliance with program rules and regulations, and reporting unusual activity and/or violations to Program Director.
- Conducts random home and employment visits to assess compliance with program conditions, including searching homes to verify that guidelines are being followed.
- Administers random alcohol and drug testing and maintain records of violations.
- Installs, maintains and updates electronic monitoring equipment in client homes.
- Ensures maintenance and care of all departmental equipment, including maintaining/repairing, or replacing/purchasing home detention equipment, and refueling department vehicles.
- Supervises and monitors Juvenile and Adult Work Crews.
- Prepares progress reports, both orally and in writing, of each home detention client as required, and assists in creating weekly schedule and Risk/Needs Visits with Director
- Maintains current knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws concerning Community Corrections operations.
- Attends staff meetings and completes professional development workshops, training, and education as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, or GED/HSE required.
- Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
- Thorough knowledge of legal requirements and standard policies, practices, and general operations of the Department, with ability to apply appropriate procedures to ongoing operations.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to properly use Department equipment, including computer, calculator, fax machine, breathalyzer, urine screen equipment, Alco sensor, electronic monitoring equipment, vehicle, and telephone/cell phone.
- Working knowledge of universal health precautions and bloodborne pathogens control, and ability to apply such knowledge to protect oneself against infection.
- Working knowledge of and ability to effectively apply evidence collection and preservation techniques.
- Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, including ability to prepare detailed Progress Reports as required.
- Working knowledge of standard office procedures and Department computer programs, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.
- Ability to conduct employment checks on home detention clients to verify clients are performing job duties, and to pick up client time sheets.
- Ability to maintain and care for departmental equipment, including maintaining/repairing, or replacing/purchasing home detention equipment, and refueling department vehicles.
- Ability to supervise and monitor Juvenile and Adult work crews.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with Director, including assisting in creating Weekly Schedule, and Risk/Needs Visit Schedule.

Incumbent performs duties according to a formal schedule and standard Department policies and guidelines. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual matters. Incumbent receives indirect or occasional supervision and has a moderate degree of flexibility in the job. On rare occasions, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies and procedures, and/or guidance from supervisor. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through procedural safeguards and supervisory review. Undetected errors could result in endangerment to self or others and/or loss of time to correct errors.
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, offenders, employers, and the public, for the purpose of exchanging information and rendering service.
Incumbent reports directly to Director of Community Corrections.
Incumbent performs majority of duties in a standard office environment, a vehicle, and in the field. Regular duties involve sitting for long periods, sitting/walking at will, standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing more than 50 pounds, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, close/far vision, color/depth perception, keyboarding, handling/grasping/fingering objects, speaking clearly, hearing sounds/communication, and driving. Incumbent maintains considerable contact with and may be exposed to irate/hostile individuals and/or physical violence. Universal health/safety precautions must be always followed to avoid contamination, infection, and/or injury to self and others.
