QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from a two-year college or technical school with coursework in Technology.
- Twelve (12) months of relevant experience.
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
NATURE OF WORK: An individual in this class provides essential first-line technical support and maintenance for the technology infrastructure that supports teaching, learning, and administrative operations. This role requires a proactive and customer-focused individual who can effectively troubleshoot hardware, software, and basic network issues for school staff and students. Responsibilities encompass the installation, configuration, and upkeep of a variety of educational technologies, including computers, peripherals, and classroom presentation systems. Furthermore, the position entails contributing to the efficient management of technology assets through inventory tracking and adherence to established IT procedures, all while ensuring a stable and functional technological environment that empowers educators and enhances the educational experience. Effective communication, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing timely and helpful technical assistance are integral to the daily execution of these duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of current Windows and/or macOS operating systems and common desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
- Basic understanding of computer hardware components, peripherals (printers, scanners, interactive panels), and their functionality.
- Familiarity with basic networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, and Wi-Fi.
- Awareness of common software installation and troubleshooting techniques.
- Understanding of basic user account management principles.
- Familiarity with educational software and online learning platforms commonly used in K-12 environments (preferred).
- Proficient in troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues.
- Skill in installing, configuring, and updating operating systems and applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. - Provide first-level technical support to school staff and, when appropriate, students via phone, email, or in person, addressing issues related to hardware, software, and basic network connectivity.
- Diagnose and resolve common technical problems involving desktop computers, laptops, printers, projectors, interactive whiteboards, and other classroom technology.
- Install, configure, and update operating systems, software applications, and drivers on school-owned devices.
- Perform basic hardware maintenance and repairs, such as replacing components, cleaning equipment, and running diagnostic tests.
- Assist users with connecting to the school network and troubleshooting basic network connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi access.
- Support the use of classroom technology by assisting teachers with setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting during instructional activities.
- Assist with the management of user accounts, including password resets and basic profile modifications.
- Maintain accurate records of technology inventory, repairs, and support activities using a ticketing system or other designated tools.
- Follow established IT procedures and protocols for troubleshooting, issue resolution, and documentation.
- Escalate complex technical issues that cannot be resolved at the first level to higher-level IT support personnel.
- Assist with the deployment and setup of new technology equipment.
- Provide basic training and guidance to users on the proper use of technology resources.
- Travel between school sites within the district as needed to provide on-site technical support.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS: The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Technology Assistant job classification within Martin County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal level of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
