Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Course Maintenance: Assist the superintendent in overseeing all golf course maintenance operations, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and landscape upkeep. Ensure that turfgrass, greens, fairways, and bunkers are maintained to meet high-quality standards.
- Staff Management: Supervise and lead the grounds crew in daily tasks, providing direction and training as needed. Coordinate schedules and assignments to ensure efficient operation and proper course conditioning.
- Irrigation Management: Oversee the irrigation system, including operation, repairs, and adjustments. Ensure proper water usage and efficiency to maintain healthy turf. Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation issues promptly.
- Agronomy Programs: Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive agronomic programs, including soil testing, fertilization schedules, and pest management strategies. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices.
- Pest and Weed Control: Implement and monitor pest control programs, applying chemicals as needed to protect the turf from disease, insects, and weeds. Keep accurate records of chemical applications and ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
- Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance, repair, and operation of golf course equipment. Ensure that all machinery is in good working order, performing preventive maintenance and repairs as necessary.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all employees follow safety procedures and that the course meets local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Conduct regular safety training for the grounds crew.
- Inventory and Supplies: Assist in managing the inventory of supplies, including fertilizers, chemicals, seed, and equipment parts. Coordinate with vendors and place orders as needed to ensure the timely availability of materials.
- Course Improvement Projects: Work with the superintendent on course improvement projects, including renovations, new plantings, and upgrades to the irrigation system. Ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

- Experience with irrigation system management, chemical application, and turfgrass care is required.
- Previous experience working on a golf course in Florida or a similar climate is desirable.
Certifications and Licenses
- State Pesticide Applicator's License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) or similar organizations is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, crouch, and use hands to handle or operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to operate mowers, tractors, irrigation systems, and other turf maintenance equipment.
- May need to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays depending on course maintenance schedules and weather conditions.
