Title: Utilities Service Worker
Pay: $17.10/hr.
Hours: Full time M-F - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: 3100 NW Hillman Drive, Jensen Beach, FL 34957

CONTRACT position with reSOURCE Government Services
Position is NOT directly with the county (Martin County Utilities and Solid Waste Department)
Must be able to pass criminal background, drug testing and MVR



SUMMARY:

Skilled in performing a variety of tasks to include reading water meters, record water consumption for customer billing, install and maintain meters, collect delinquent payments on customer water accounts, and provide customer service.

Primary position requires working outside and with sewer lines and wastewater.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES:

Locate water meters on established routes and within designated timeframes to conduct meter readings, re-readings, service work, collection of bills, or other activities; drives utility truck to conduct meter-reading activities.

Read water meters; enters water consumption data from meter to service order and meter reading device; records data and confirms accuracy of readings.

Test meters to ensure proper operations and accurate readings including chlorine sampling; inspects/observes condition of meters; reports faulty equipment or any necessary repair/maintenance work.

Disconnect water service for termination of service, non-payment of bills, or other reasons; connects/reconnects water service for new accounts, payment of delinquent bills, or other reasons.

Perform customer service functions; provides assistance and information related to water meters, water consumption, water leaks, billing issues, procedures, or other issues; responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service; initiates problem resolution.

Collect money in payment of water utility bills or other fees/services; records transactions, issues receipts, and forwards revenues as appropriate.

Perform manual work functions associated with meter reading and maintenance activities, which may include locating buried meters, removing old meters, installing new meters, testing meters, replacing parts, trimming/pruning shrubs/trees around meter boxes, removing/replacing meter boxes/lids, cleaning meter parts/components, digging/removing dirt/debris from meter boxes, raising boxes, removing pests/rodents from meter areas, digging ditches/trenches, shoveling materials, or lifting/moving heavy materials.

Maintenance of fire hydrants with flushing and painting.

Operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools associated with meter reading activities, which may include a utility truck, general office equipment, radio communications equipment, handheld computerized meter reading device, metal detector, meter tester, shovel, yard/hand tools, plumbing tools, or mechanic tools.

Perform general maintenance tasks which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

Monitor inventory of division equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials.

Follow safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees, the public and other individuals.

Prepare or complete various forms, reports, correspondence, service/work orders, time sheets, overtime logs, or other documents.

Communicate via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; records/replays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.

Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, customers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Provide response to after-hours calls or to emergency situations.

Performs other related duties as required, and assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the effective operation of equipment as required for the position.

Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents.

Knowledge of different types of pipes and repair clamps.

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions related to construction and maintenance operations.

Ability to work effectively without close supervision and to make decisions where applicable, pertaining to work problems.

Ability to provide information and answer customers' questions in an effective and courteous manner.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess a High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and one (1) year combined experience involving customer service, water meter maintenance, and water pipeline maintenance.

Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License

Must possess Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification within twelve (12) months of appointment.

Must possess or obtain one "C" Water Distribution Certification within twelve (12) months of appointment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
