TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); 2024-2025 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators’ Association

 

LOCATION: George R. Martin Elementary School  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  1.     Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Library - All Levels by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 
  1.      Demonstrates knowledge of computer hardware and software and other technologies and an in-depth understanding of curriculum development, instruction, assessment, and of technology integration.
  2.     Has excellent interpersonal and teaching skills.

REPORTS TO/EVALUATED BY:  Building Principal

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  1.     Designs, prepares and implements lessons and units of study that integrate library media skills and research skills into other curriculum areas for elementary classes.
  2.     Understands necessary formats for bibliographic records and digital acquisitions.
  3.     Experienced with use of digital automation system for library collection and patron management.
  4.     Possesses the following:
  •         Outstanding knowledge of print and electronic resources as well as their proper use and dissemination.
  •         Outstanding knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
  •         Outstanding knowledge of children’s and young adult literature as well as genres relevant to the library collection.
  •         Outstanding knowledge of the needs of diverse learners and the diversity in reading levels of students.
  1.     Acts as a resource person in matters concerning library media, technology, audiovisual equipment and materials and their use in the school instructional program.
  2.     Organizes, publicizes and implements staff development opportunities for new equipment, procedures and programs.
  3.     Encourages a love of reading; provides enrichment opportunities and accommodates the diversity of student needs, interests and abilities.
  4.     Provides reference service and assistance in locating information for students and staff.
  5.     Organizes the storage and handling of audiovisual materials for convenience, availability and effective use.
  6.   Exercises general supervision of materials and equipment for classroom and library use.
  7.   Assists in the production of simple audiovisual and library media materials.
  8.   Arranges for maintenance and repair of audiovisual and library media center equipment.
  9.   Conducts annual inventories of equipment, supplies and materials.
  10.   Develops in consultation with the principal and staff, an annual budget for purchase of library media and audiovisual materials.
  11.   Utilizes input from faculty, students and professional evaluation tools to requisition library media and audiovisual materials that represent a wide range of subjects, viewpoints, cultures grades and interest levels.
  12.   Supervises the ordering, processing, circulation, shelving, inventorying and weeding of materials and equipment.
  13.   Works with the Director of Technology and Digital Learning, District Technology Committee, principal and technician (if applicable) to supervise the ordering of technology supplies, hardware and software pertinent to the school.
  14.   Organizes an inviting library media facility and promotes appropriate student conduct.  Develops library media center policies and assists staff and students with legal and ethical issues relating to use of materials and the Internet.
  15.   Cooperates with other Library Media Specialists in the development of district wide endeavors, in sharing information, and in utilizing the resources of the Seekonk Public Library and SAILS network.
  16.   Participates on building or system-wide committees.
  17.   Pursues professional development via attendance at workshops, conferences and courses.
  18.   Maintains the school web pages with input from staff and administrators.
  19.   Works with the Director of Technology and Digital Learning or technician to develop and implement a scheduled maintenance plan that includes updating and upgrading all computers, administrative software, educational software and managerial software pertinent to the library media use.
  20.   Sets up technology or audio visual equipment for programs and meetings.
  21.   Models and teaches legal and ethical practice related to technology and library media use.
  22.   Exhibits outstanding level of teacher support and collaborative spirit.
  23.   Performs other related duties as assigned by the building principal.
  24.  Other duties, as assigned, according to the SEA contract.
