TYPE OF POSITION: Full time (1.0); 2024-2025 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education as set forth in the agreement between the School Committee of the Town of Seekonk and Local 1701, State Council 93, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO

LOCATION: George R. Martin Elementary School
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Immediate Teacher
The Instructional Aide assists teachers and/or building principals in the supervision of students in the classroom during instructional periods and throughout the school environment as designated by the principal or teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree and/or passing score on Paraprofessional Assessment
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.
- Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:
- Under the supervision of a certified special education teacher, assists with students in the classroom to meet academic, social, and behavioral goals and objectives. This includes helping to prepare for classroom activities and small group instruction.
- Implements lessons and activities with the necessary accommodations and modifications required to meet the individual needs of students in the classroom as directed by the teacher.
- Works individually or in small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Implements de-escalation strategies with students who need additional supportive measures in order to be successful within the school setting
- Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success
- Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others
- Participates in in-service training programs, when appropriate.
- When necessary, provides coverage for classroom teachers across the elementary grade levels.
- Performs other tasks designated by the special education teacher and/or supervisor.
