Commercial Front Load Drivers are responsible for safely operating a front-loading truck and providing superior customer service to assigned routes through the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to a disposal site, transfer station, or recycling plant. Commercial Front Load Drivers service 100-150 commercial customers per day, requiring the driver to enter/exit the truck many times per day.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- All actions essential to ensure the safe and efficient collection and transportation of waste and recyclables.
- Safely operate a commercial front end loader vehicle along assigned routes, to collect waste from residential and commercial bins using the front-end loader mechanism and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
- Clean up areas located around containers as needed when servicing customers.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, DOT regulations and company policies while driving. Safely and efficiently maneuver the truck through traffic and tight spaces.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies related to waste collection/handling and truck operation.
- Ensure all customer routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
- Effectively communicate with dispatchers and other team members regarding route changes or service issues, such as blocked alleyways, overweight containers, safety hazards, or impassable streets.
- Report any necessary container repairs or replacements to Route Manager or Dispatcher.
- Ensure the truck and associated equipment is clean, safe and in good working order. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) and notate all issues on DVIR form for review/repair.
- Assist in routine maintenance of the truck; perform basic maintenance tasks as needed and promptly report any mechanical and/or maintenance issues to the supervisor. Monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
- Work with Route Manager and other team members to improve route efficiencies.
- Maintains and updates route sheets and driver logs.
- Report all injuries, safety hazards, accidents, vehicle damage, property damage, and moving violations to your supervisor immediately.
- Attend scheduled safety meetings, information sessions, and training sessions as directed by Route Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned; to include assisting on other routes to meet customer needs.
Qualifications
- At least 21 years old.
- Must possess a valid CDL-A or CDL-B.
- Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire.
- Must have a clean driving record / ability to be insured on company auto policy.
- Must pass background and drug testing as required by federal and/or state department(s) of transportation regulations.
- Minimum 1-year CDL truck driving experience, waste industry experience and/or front loader driver is a plus.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations as they relate to the proper and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
- Excellent driving skills and ability to maneuver in tight spaces.
- Excellent customer service skills with a desire to meet and exceed expectations.
- Strong commitment to safety and willingness to adhere to Martin Environmental Services polices and safety standards.
- Knowledge of local geography and road networks.
- Ability to read and understand a map.
- General knowledge of mechanics of trucks.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with management, co-workers, and customers.
- Ability to effectively follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills to ensure duties are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including but not limited to sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting).
- Able to frequently lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
This position requires regularly operating a company owned commercial motor vehicle. Exposure to various weather conditions including, but not limited to, heat, cold, rain, and wind. Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
