SUMMARY:
Be a part of our Martin Equipment work family! Martin Equipment is a John Deere Construction Dealership, family-owned for almost 100-years. The Heavy Load Truck Driver delivers equipment for our dealership. Not only must the truck driver be an excellent driver, but they must also have a non-expired CDL A license to transport equipment, and they must be able to load and unload machines (operate construction equipment) and attachments onto the flatbed. Also, required to bind down the loads, attach and secure the loads to the truck. Perform daily vehicle inspections, clean, and maintain equipment, and maintain required records as assigned. Other duties include coordinating shipping and receiving, verifying, and processing orders, and loading, storing, and unloading inventory.
Essential Functions:
- Transport equipment to/from customers and/or between dealer locations.
- Supports the sales department with equipment delivery as needed.
- Maintains activity records and obtains necessary signatures and receipts.
- Maintains all required certifications in line with DOT, OSHA, and company policy.
- Accountable for all time and distance traveled in performing assigned duties.
- May instruct customers on basic equipment operating procedures as required.
- Work with management to ensure positive customer experience.
- Must maintain vehicle and report problems to supervisors as soon as possible.
- Submit all necessary documents to the DOT to maintain a complete and accurate DQ file.
- Must obey all regulations of the road including local, state, and federal.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
- When not making deliveries, repair and maintain equipment as necessary.
- Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- Valid driver’s license required with good standing.
- Valid medical card required, CDL A required.
- At least two years’ lowboy operator driving experience required.
- Must be at least age 21 to drive a commercial motor vehicle across the state line.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Job Knowledge, SKILLS, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hazards associated with equipment.
- Self-driven, self-motivated, and customer service oriented.
- Professional behavior with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
Physical REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to drive safely for long periods of time.
- Ability to focus and stay alert.
- Energy to work long hours.
- Almost always local/regions driving, usually home every night.
- Must be able to climb, bend, kneel, push, and pull with great force.
- May be required to lift, drag, or move buckets, forks, hammers, etc. These attachments can weigh up to 100 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- All required PPE is provided by Martin Equipment and includes, but is not limited to, protective glasses, gloves, and boots.
Work Environment:
- Driving environment.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions including unpredictable weather.
- The service department when not operating a vehicle.
