Job Summary
As an entry Lab Technician here at Martin Fish Co. – ACSL Lab, prospective employees are expected to be able to:
Accomplish set daily realistic production goals
Follow step by step procedure while adhering to production requirements
Comply with company regulations on the access and handling of confidential information
Comply with personal protective equipment guidelines
Strong attention to detail
Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining work quality
Comply, understand, and practice aseptic technique
Have strong communication skills and the ability to work individually and as part of a team
Be able to work in a dynamic environment
Be able to read, comprehend, and implement standard operating procedures (S.O.P.)
Correctly record and report individual production data
Any production/equipment issues reported in a timely manner
Department placement will be determined by ACSL lab managers, however prospective employees’ preference and experience background will be taken into account when making placement decisions.
Core Job Duties
Dependent on department placement, In the ACSL lab there are four departments that perform different tasks to facilitate smooth production.
Collection Department
- Perform one of three positions within the department: Collection of Samples, Equipment Operation, and/or Marine Life Handling
- Employees will receive training for all positions. Employees will be assigned and expected to perform one of these positions primarily. Employees may be required to change primary positions with little or no notice.
- Follow Aseptic and S.O.P guidelines for: collection of samples directly from source, operation of centrifuges, inspection and organization of collected samples, Direct handling and safe manipulation of marine life
- Assist in lab support activities: cleaning of the laboratory, performing daily individual workspace checks, completing side work
- Perform and record daily work assignments accurately, timely and in a safe manner
Separation Department
- Perform one of four positions within the department: Wash 1, Wash 2, Step 3, Step 4
- Employees will receive training for all positions. Employees will be assigned and expected to perform one of these positions primarily. Employees may be required to change primary positions with little or no notice.
- Follow Aseptic and S.O.P guidelines for: separating, cleaning, inspecting, and processing cells
- Assist in lab support activities: cleaning of the laboratory, performing daily individual workspace checks, completing side work
- Perform and record daily work assignments accurately, timely and in a safe manner
Solution Department
- Perform one of two positions in the department: Preparing Solutions or Filling glassware with solutions
- Employees will receive training for all positions. Employees will be assigned and expected to perform one of these positions primarily. Employees may be required to change primary positions with little or no notice.
- Follow Aseptic and S.O.P guidelines for: Measuring, maintaining, and preparation of laboratory grade solutions and reagents
- Assist in lab support activities: cleaning of the laboratory, performing daily individual workspace checks, completing side work
- Perform and record daily work assignments accurately, timely and in a safe manner
Sanitation Department
- Perform one of three positions in the department: Oven Operator, Expeditor, Lab Equipment sterilizer
- Employees will receive training for all positions. Employees will be assigned and expected to perform one of these positions primarily. Employees may be required to change primary positions with little or no notice.
- Follow Aseptic and S.O.P guidelines for: Washing and sterilization of glassware, metalware, and lab equipment. Operation of sanitation and sterilization equipment, and maintaining a clean and sterile department environment
- Diligent monitoring of sanitation and sterilization equipment with the communicative ability to report issues in a timely manner
- Assist in lab support activities: cleaning of the laboratory, performing daily individual workspace checks, completing side work
- Perform and record daily work assignments accurately, timely and in a safe manner
Required Experience & Education
Authorized to work in the United States
High School Diploma/ G.E.D.
Interest in the Life Sciences
Preferred Experience & Education
Equivalent combination of paid, volunteer, or educational experience may be accepted
6 months of experience in a lab environment
6 months of experience in a production environment
2 years of general workforce experience
