POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Information Systems Educator (CIS-E) will actively contribute to an innovative team dedicated to the optimal use of health information technology (HIT) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. This position is key to ensuring clinical users' readiness and confidence when using the electronic health record (EHR) and other HIT systems. The CIS-E will be responsible for maintaining in-depth knowledge of the EHR and other HIT technologies and training staff members, new-hire orientees, and providers on the use of these technologies and related policies and procedures. This position requires the ability to explain technology to diverse end-users and ensure they are able to use the applications and functionality effectively to accomplish their work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop and maintain new hire EHR orientation program, and associated curricula, for the entire organization
2. Provide direct educational support for providers and staff team members
3. Maintain the on-line (internet based) training site to ensure accurate training data is available at all times
4. Collaborate with clinical leadership and providers on input for training and training materials
5. Validate training content and effectiveness by observing employees using new skills on the job
6. Evaluate the results of end-user assessments and observations to review and revise training as needed
7. Demonstrate the ability to provide innovative teaching and service approaches that adjust to the needs of the end-user and the organization
8. Deliver and/or coordinate ongoing education based on the learning needs assessment of the end-user
9. Knowledgeable of the Watson Model of Care including key elements of Care, Competence, Communication and Commitment.
10. Other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- Proficient Cerner Millennium user
- Experience in training clinical staff
- Current California Nursing License preferred
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Bilingual language skills preferred (Spanish)
- Basic computer skills
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
