The Data Architect/Engineer (DAE) is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robust, scalable, and high-quality data solutions for Martin Luther King Jr. Community Health (MLKCH). This role will involve working with hospital data sources from various platforms, including Oracle Health Millenium EHR (formerly Cerner) to bring them into a data lakehouse and build Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) processes to integrate the data. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Python, and SQL, with significant experience in healthcare data management, experience with medallion architecture, API calls, and process automation. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Data Analytics and Digital Solutions, the DAE serves as a trusted partner to leaders throughout the organization seeking insights from the health system’s data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop ETL/ELT pipelines to integrate data from Oracle Health EHR and other hospital data sources into data lakehouse and promote through medallion architecture.
- Implement and maintain high-quality, production-grade data pipelines following the medallion architecture principles.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including administrators, analysts, and leadership, to ensure data solutions meet organizational needs.
- Develop and automate processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of data processes, architectures, and solutions.
- Conduct system audits and ensure compliance with data governance and security standards.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, resolving issues or escalating to appropriate vendors as necessary.
- Utilize Python, SQL, and Power BI to analyze and interpret healthcare data, providing insights for business decision-making.
- Ensure the availability, integrity, and security of data through best practices in data management.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and healthcare data analytics.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a long-term strategic roadmap for the health system's data architecture and analytics.
- Adheres to the MLKCH change management process for break fix and any system changes.
- Troubleshoots system issues to resolution or escalation to vendor.
- Successfully engages in multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
- If applicable, monitors and tracks backend jobs and interfaces to ensure efficient operations.
- Provide after-hours “on-call” support to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a long-term strategic roadmap for health system’s data analytics.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- Bachelor’s degree, associate degree or 3 years of equivalent experience
B. Qualifications/Experience
- 2 years of experience working with healthcare data, preferably Oracle Health EHR (formerly Cerner)
- Python/Spark programming – intermediate skills
- SQL (MS SQL preferred) – intermediate skills
- Business Intelligence (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, etc.) – intermediate skills
- Spreadsheets (Excel) – intermediate skills
