The Clinical Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality patient-centered care on the Med/Surg Telemetry unit. This role involves utilizing clinical expertise to assess patients, manage care plans, and ensure effective communication with healthcare teams and families. The nurse must uphold the hospital's mission, comply with safety standards, and participate in quality improvement processes while demonstrating compassion and respect for patients.
Position Summary
The Clinical Staff Nurse is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the management of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process as a problem-solving model to anticipate and plan for patient needs.
- Assess patients to target areas most productive for their specific situation, recognizing subtle changes in clinical situations and adjusting the plan of care accordingly.
- Apply current literature and critical thinking skills to make sound clinical decisions, consistently prioritizing and organizing patient care to ensure follow-through with planned care.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic nurse-patient relationships throughout the healthcare continuum, respecting patients' rights and conducting hourly rounding.
- Communicate effectively using SBAR in all hand-off situations.
- Document patient care according to unit-specific and hospital policies, including assessment, interdisciplinary plan of care, implementation, evaluation, and the Watson Model of Care.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and document outcomes.
- Use patient classification systems according to standards.
- SUPERVISE AND EVALUATE ANCILLARY NURSING PERSONNEL.
Position Requirements
A. Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
- Associate degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent.
- Internal candidates who have successfully completed the MLKCH Versant Nurse Residency Program will be considered.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience.
- Minimum 12 months of Med/Surg/Telemetry or Critical Care nursing experience, preferably with regulatory guidelines and standard of practice, or at the discretion of the Manager/Director.
- Current California Nursing license.
- Basic EKG Competence.
- Certification in Progressive Critical Care Nursing preferred.
- Certification in Medical/Surgical Nursing preferred.
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish).
- Basic computer skills.
- Dysrrythmia Course certificate preferred.
- Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card within 90 days of hire or requirement notification.
