DESCRIPTION:
The Nutrition Unit provides direct and consultative services to residents, public/private health agencies community-based nutrition programs in Martin, Tyrrell, Washington, and adjoining counties. The Nutrition Unit implements the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for pregnant, lactating women, infants, and children up to age five as an adjunct to health care.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the principles of normal and therapeutic nutrition. Considerable knowledge and skill in nutrition and dietary assessment techniques (anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary), and in interpretation of data. Knowledge of interrelationships between health and social service programs, and of appropriate community resources for referral of clients. Knowledge of human behavior and techniques for effecting behavior change. Skill in writing clear, concise entries using the protocol for progress notes in clients’ health/medical records and ability to interview and provide counseling. Ability to understand an individual’s socio-economic status and lifestyles with respect for individual differences. Ability to monitor and maintain quality standards of nutrition care using current standards of practice. Ability to organize and manage time and resources.
Minimum Education and Experience- Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience.
