Summary: As a member of the Martin’s family, the Small Mix Lead is responsible for coordinating the activities of the small mix operators while setting up, monitoring, and adjusting machines that prepare the ingredients for processing. Embraces a mindset of thorough planning and continuous improvement by recognizing and adjusting to the fluctuating needs of our customers. Accepts responsibility for moving the company towards being an industry leader in food safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Enforces and adheres to Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Good Manufacturing Practice regulations.
- Plans flow of all materials through department according to work orders.
- Inspects, measures, and takes samples of product to verify conformance to specifications.
- Establishes and/or adjusts work schedule to maintain sufficient supply of mix for production needs in CHB and VLD plants.
- Assists small mix employees in solving work problems.
- Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
- Coordinates and communicates actions for substandard product.
- Inspects and takes samples of product to visually verify conformance to specifications (color of mix).
- Designates rotation of employees throughout Small Mix area fairly and consistently.
- Designates breaks throughout the day within the Small Mix area.
- Maintains time and production records, including break sheets, pre and post operational inspections, as well as other safety, food safety, and quality records.
- Coordinates and communicates repair work with general maintenance utilizing the EAM system.
- Evaluates CHB and VLD mix inventories and adjusts production schedules accordingly.
- Ensures cleanliness of work area is maintained.
- Ensures training of new employees.
- Relays any employee relations issues observed to a supervisor.
- Runs daily pre-shift meetings which includes stretching, safety talk, etc.
- Reports safety, food safety, and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
- Performs responsibilities of Small Mix employees as needed.
- Performs functions in ORACLE as needed to ensure Lot Traceability is being followed and no ingredients expire.
- Manages inventory through transactions in the warehouse management system.
- Ensures all tubs and mix are being scanned properly before put away in Warehouse or sent to VLD for use
- Performs and enforces lockout/tag out procedures designated for the equipment/area.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assigns and directs the work of small mix operators. Administers policies and procedures fairly and consistently.

Education and/or Experience:
· High School Diploma/GED;
· One to Three years’ related experience and/or training
· Bilingual Preferred
· Related experience in baking or manufacturing industries
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to learn and understand bakery analytics information including key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite products, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate machinery and equipment.
• Ability to learn bakery systems, including Apex, reporting tools, etc.
• Ability to pass medical evaluation to use a respirator.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for several hours at a time. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and smell. Ability to walk, sit; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Must be authorized to handle powered equipment.
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The temperature in the production area may be affected by outside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
