EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must hold a high school diploma or GED. Two years of relevant work experience, with at least one year in a supervisory role, or a comparable combination of education and experience is required. Ability to use scheduling software to schedule employee shifts required.
SUMMARY:
Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation operates 2 recreational facilities that provide childcare services during summer break.
The Summer Adventure Day Camp Coordinator is an organized, energetic individual motivated to lead the childcare team and manage all aspects of the childcare operation at MBCPR.
The candidate must be flexible as the work schedule varies following operational hours. Experience scheduling staff, reviewing labor hours, and coaching team members are all essential functions. A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES include the following:
- Manage the day-to-day camp operations including staff management, program development, scheduling, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff.
- Plan and execute various camp activities, with a focus on youth development, safety, and fostering a positive camp environment.
- Procures necessary camp-related supplies and equipment.
- Plans camp programs and activities, including weekly themes, field trips and crafts.
- Flexibility is essential, as the position requires overseeing different age groups as well as addressing any issues that arise within the day camp experience.
- Hires counselors and ensures staff undergoes comprehensive training on the policies and procedures of both recreational facilities.
- Manages counselors; ensures accurate attendance is kept.
- Other essential job duties relevant to the role and department may be required.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
Completes daily duties with efficiency and minimal supervision. Provides reports to supervisor weekly or as required. Shows willingness and initiative to perform duties to assure smooth childcare operations.
PROVIDING DIRECT PATRON SERVICES:
Has strong hospitality and customer service skills and enjoys engaging with the customer. Ensures that customer service meets or exceeds expectations. Establishes standards for the childcare team and crew to handle customer concerns.
COMMUNICATION – VERBAL AND WRITTEN:
A clear communicator who shares information with supervisor, team-members, and others within the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the whole organization. Must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in a pleasant and courteous manner, handle differences of opinion in a businesslike fashion, follow instructions conscientiously, and function as a team member, helping the group effort. Must communicate expectations and procedures clearly to team members to maintain smooth operations.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY, & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work will occur indoors and out in a variety of conditions and temperature ranges. Tasks require standing for long periods of time, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Work is high paced at times, must be able to perform in a busy environment. Physical demands listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform essential job functions.
