What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor (2025) position at Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation?
SUMMARY:
This job will help plan and lead group events, monitor campers, and respond to incidents, such as behavioral problems or accidents, log events and maintain records relating to activities, and discuss camper participation and concerns with parents and other camp staff members.

Requirements:
- 17 years of age
- Reliable childcare and transportation
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Pass a background check

- Able to take corrective feedback and apply it in future behavior

- Remain alert with no lapses in consciousness
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES include the following:
- Ability to work independently and with camp staff to plan and coordinate camp activities
- Being on time, dependable
- Maintain continuous surveillance of patrons in facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents
- Control and report unruly behavior; evict patrons not adhering to facility rules
- Maintain accurate records as required
- Perform other related duties as required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working in camps, with children, or with specific activities is preferred
- Working toward G.E.D or High School Diploma
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire date
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Internal and external environments; variety of weather conditions to include humidity, rain, and heat.
WORK SCHEDULE subject to change:
- Monday – Friday, 8-hour shift between 7:00am – 5:30pm
