POSITION SUMMARY
The Customer Service Associate is responsible for general questions from customers involving pricing, returns and location of merchandise. In addition, this position is responsible for the processing of customer purchases. This individual must be able to assist customers in the payment of their purchases using any number of transaction options (i.e. Cash, credit or debit cards, checks or other forms of payment.) This is not a supervisory position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (responsibilities include, but are not limited to)
Customer Service:
• Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions to all customers and staff
• Responds quickly and in a friendly manner to customer inquiries and complaints
• Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
• Ability to bag merchandise
• Assists in returning shopping carts and baskets to designated areas
• Reports all irregular issues and problems to the Store Manager for solutions
• Exceeds Customer Service Department’s sales goals assigned through the efficient execution of Company policies and procedures
Cashiering:
• Opens & closes assigned cash registers
• Counts opening and closing cash and other transactions for assigned register
• Scans merchandise purchased
• Checks customers’ coupons and applies to purchases
• Checks coupons for expiration dates and validity
• Checks IDs for tobacco and alcohol transactions
• Processes purchases quickly and efficiently
• Process returns and credits customers utilizing the Company’s return policy procedures
• Conducts transactions professionally
• Works various shifts, days or nights as assigned by Store Manager in accordance with the Company’s business needs
Stocking:
• Organizes and stocks Customer Service display areas per store’s layouts, planograms and standards
• Setting up and maintaining the condition of the Customer Service Section according to company standards
• Ensures Customer Service register area is handled, stocked, rotated and merchandised
• Proactively supports any promotional activity within the store and contributes to an effective working environment
• Breaking down pallets, separating Customer Service products for sales floor, cooler and/or back room prep area
• Maintains a well-organized area
• Ensures that all Customer Service products are in its right place, so employees and shoppers can find what they need quickly and easily
• Maintains good communication with store management, associates
• Serves as a back-up in other departments as needed
• Attends department and all store meetings, as assigned or needed
Inventory:
• Notifies immediate supervisor of out of stock products
• Notifies immediate supervisor of price discrepancies
• Must be knowledgeable of merchandise placement and location
Department Maintenance:
• Verifying ads, hanging current sale signs, and removing out-of-date sale signs
• Ensures proper pricing and signing of products
• Maintains cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor
• Ensures a safe and secure work environment

Safety, Loss Prevention and Procedural Compliance:
• Follows Company guidelines for managing confidential information, customer satisfaction and working with store personnel
• Follow safety practices such as: washing hands, wearing a clean uniform per shift, trim and clean fingernails
• Under the direction of immediate supervisor, administers IIPP Procedures, Safety Program and Procedures
• Assists immediate supervisor in Loss Prevention in curbing internal and external theft
• Ensures satisfactory maintenance, appearance and condition of assigned facilities to comply with security, safety and environmental codes and ordinances
• Enforces compliance with all local, state, federal regulations and company policy pertaining to safety and loss prevention
• Complies with all Health Compliance and Food Regulations
• Complies with all OSHA requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
The required qualifications are as follows:
• Able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service
• Able to read, write, and do simple math problems
• Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions
• Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management
• Ability to interact with all levels of management
EDUCATION
• High School diploma or GED preferred
• No experience required, but prefer a minimum of 1-3 years of work experience in a similar work environment
• Customer service experience in a similar or comparable work environment, strong work ethic supported by a pleasant and positive attitude of “can do” success
WORKING CONDITIONS
A Customer Service Store Associate may be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments. Ability to stand for long period. Work includes eye-hand coordination, repetitive arm and hand movements, along with frequent interaction with customers and other associates. Noise level is moderate to loud.
