Job Title: Director of Labor and Delivery RN – Austin, Texas

Position Overview:
The Director of Labor and Delivery (L&D) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, and patient care standards of the Labor and Delivery department, ensuring a high level of quality, safety, and patient-centered care. This role will actively engage in strategic planning, budget management, and the development of policies and procedures to achieve the facility's objectives. The Director will lead a collaborative and accountable culture, driving continuous improvement in both clinical outcomes and the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Excellence & Patient Care:
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care by implementing evidence-based practices that advance patient safety and improve clinical outcomes.
- Foster a culture of accountability and transparency in nursing practice, ensuring consistent adherence to standards of care and promoting continuous improvement in clinical efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage clinical variation to improve patient outcomes while controlling costs.
- Stay updated on internal and external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations, actively pursuing excellence in these areas.
- Maintain compliance with legal and regulatory standards, ensuring policies, procedures, and practices align with all relevant laws and regulations.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead and develop the L&D nursing team, ensuring the right staff with appropriate competencies are in place to meet patient care needs.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages interdisciplinary communication within the department and across hospital units.
- Develop and implement strategies to support employee engagement, recognition, and retention.
- Provide leadership in cultivating a culture that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Operational & Financial Management:
- Lead the development and management of department budgets, including revenue and expense forecasting, staffing, and supply needs.
- Monitor budget performance, identifying trends and variances and developing strategies to address performance gaps.
- Oversee patient throughput, including volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning to ensure efficient, high-quality care.
Quality, Safety, & Patient Experience:
- Develop and implement care coordination policies and procedures to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency of care delivery.
- Use various feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and identify areas for improvement in patient satisfaction and the overall patient experience.
- Instill accountability for providing exceptional, positive patient interactions that distinguish the organization as a leader in healthcare.
Strategic Collaboration & Service Development:
- Collaborate with physicians, administrative teams, and other department leaders to enhance existing services or develop new offerings.
- Support the development of new care models and strategies to improve patient care outcomes, leveraging current healthcare trends and research.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- Licensing & Certifications:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state(s) of practice or holds an active compact license, in accordance with state law and regulations (required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and/or Registered Nurse Certified in Obstetrics (RNC-OB) preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Labor & Delivery nursing in an acute care setting (required).
- Minimum of 3 years in a Director-level or leadership role within Labor & Delivery in an acute care setting (required).
