Salary Range:

Job Summary:
The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for leading and overseeing the perioperative team to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while effectively managing daily operations. This role requires full 24/7 accountability for surgical departments, which include both a main hospital and a smaller facility. The Director will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to enhance operational efficiency and ensure adherence to safety standards across the surgical service lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage surgical services operations, ensuring efficient and high-quality care within the perioperative environment.
- Oversee the management of 25 Operating Rooms (ORs) at the main hospital, along with 3 ORs at the smaller facility.
- Ensure that surgical services are in compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
- Coordinate and supervise surgical staff to maintain optimal operational efficiency, patient safety, and care delivery.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to 5 managers, who together oversee a total of around 230 FTEs.
- Collaborate with the VP of Surgical Services to align department goals and strategies with hospital objectives.
- Oversee the management of trauma, burn care, and other high-priority surgical specialties, such as surgical oncology, neuro, and orthopedics.
- Drive performance improvement initiatives, focusing on quality, patient outcomes, and operational excellence.
- Facilitate the department's response to emergencies and unforeseen challenges, ensuring effective management at all times.
- Monitor and manage surgical case volumes, with approximately 1,000 cases per month, including both trauma and elective surgeries.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Nursing required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Director of Surgical Services in an acute care setting.
- Licensure: Must be currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of practice in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Certifications:
- Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) preferred.
- Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and managerial skills, with a proven ability to lead large, diverse teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clinical and administrative staff.
- Experience in trauma, burn care, surgical oncology, neuro, and orthopedic surgery services is highly desirable.
Reporting Structure:
- The Director of Surgical Services reports directly to the Vice President of Surgical Services.
- Five Managers report directly to the Director, collectively overseeing around 230 FTEs.
