About the Job:
We are seeking a full-time Research Associate to join a highly collaborative team using modern microbiological, molecular, biochemical, and -omics techniques to develop microbiome-based therapies. The candidate will work with our small team in screening and hit-to-lead development. In addition, there will be opportunities to assist in the execution of pre-clinical studies to evaluate treatment efficacy. The ideal candidate is highly organized and skilled in modern laboratory techniques, and excited to work in a highly dynamic and collaborative team. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking microbiome start-up and help build the foundation for microbiome as therapeutics.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute experiments to isolate and identify novel microbes from complex samples
- Conduct moderate to high-throughput microbiological, molecular, and cell-based assays using sterile technique
- Document work in notebooks, technical reports, and meetings
- Prepare reagents, manage inventory, and assist in day-to-day laboratory functioning
Candidate Must:
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Work independently and as part of a team consisting of a diverse group of science professionals
- Work well within a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented start-up environment
- Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Key Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Cell Biology, or related field
- Ideally 2 years of hands-on experience
- Demonstrated excellence in basic laboratory techniques such as sterile technique
- Skilled in microbiology and molecular techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and PCR
- Strong background in biology and modern laboratory techniques
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with fixed and frozen tissue processing, paraffin and frozen tissue sectioning, and immunofluorescence microscopy is strongly preferred
- Experience with qPCR, in-vitro assays, tissue culturing, cytokine profiling, mammalian cell transfection/transduction is beneficial
