Requirements

Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF CUSTODIAN include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• This position requires Saturday weekend coverage.
• Sweeps floors and walkways.
• Maintains floors by scrubbing, stripping, waxing, buffing, and polishing.
• Maintains carpet and upholstery by vacuuming, shampooing, and spot cleaning.
• Washes walls and windows.
• Dusts, polishes and oils surfaces.
• Dusts and cleans blinds and window coverings.
• Removes trash.
• Cleans all common areas as assigned.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Empties/cleans waste baskets and trash containers; empty and clean ash trays and cigarette urns, refill restroom dispensers.
• Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, conferences, and events, etc.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools (buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees) for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
• Attend to emergencies when necessary; attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
• Handle recycling materials.
• Call in and respond to work orders.
• Assist with inventory control.
• Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment.
• Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
• Abide by the Standards of Conduct which is the basis for the Organizational Integrity Program.
• Compliance with Health Information privacy (HIPPA) related laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS OF CUSTODIAN

• Experience in general cleaning of residences, hotels, or health care residences preferred. Must have an understanding of older, frail adults and their needs. Time management skills and the ability to communicate with residents and staff required.
• Ability to speak and read English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
