Job Summary -
Provides oversight and resource expertise in Surgery Department scheduling. Communicates and collaborates with staff including surgeons, acute and ambulatory nursing staff, schedulers the Director of Surgery, and Anesthesia to optimize the operating room schedule, ensuring maximum efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor compliance with surgical scheduling policies and procedures as they relate to surgery scheduling.
- Ensure patient safety and optimize hospital efficiency by considering preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative factors.
- Oversee the surgery scheduling process, monitor the effectiveness and efficiency involved in the scheduling of procedures, both planned and unplanned.
- Contribute to the planning and coordination of the daily operations of the Operating Room as it relates to scheduling.
- Collaborate with the Director of Surgery on resource management.
- Choose criteria, key performance indicators, or a measurement dashboard to evaluate the metrics involved in the scheduling process.
- Decision making regarding case scheduling to ensure optimal use of resources.
- Analyze unnecessary delays and optimize the scheduling process to improve operating room efficiency.
- Utilize technology and data analysis to track and improve performance related to surgical scheduling efficiencies to further enhance operating room productivity.
- Implement standardized protocols and guidelines to improve communication and collaboration among staff involved in the scheduling of surgical procedures to reduce errors and promote a smoother workflow.
- Report directly to the VP of Patient Services and work closely with Mary Rutans Nursing Supervision team to ensure uniformity of scheduling processes at all times.
Regulatory Requirements
- Registered nursing degree and a current RN, license.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of related experience is required.
Skills
- Basic management skills, knowledge of quality assurance and performance improvement, and the ability to understand staffing plans and requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of each stage of the surgical process. This includes thorough planning and preparation before as well as after surgery.
