Position Description
The Grant Writer is a key contributor to building our grant database and partnerships through seeking appropriate opportunities and successful application of foundation, corporate, and government grants. This role is primarily focused on supporting our current capital campaign around our Burien site and government proposals but will also support other grant applications as needed. Both previous capital campaign and federal grant experience is ideal.
This is a full-time, exempt position with a compensation of $70 - 85K DOE . The Grant Writer reports to the Associate Grants Director within the Institutional Giving team and does not supervise other staff. The position is hybrid, based at our administrative offices in South Lake Union with the ability to work from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strong cross-organizational relationships with key partners on the Programs, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure current and clear understanding of funding needs and executional capacity / capabilities.
- Research prospective private foundations, corporations, and government entities (City, County, State, and federal) to find and evaluate new and future grant opportunities.
- Provide guidance and expertise in the interpretation of and adherence to funder requirements and administrative guidelines, including federal compliance.
- Lead application process for all identified and / or assigned grant proposals, including preparation, documentation, submission, and management to decision.
- Contribute to an $18 million raise towards the overall $35 million campaign goal for the Burien Project, alongside the Individual Giving, Corporate, and leadership teams.
- Contribute towards Development’s overall $21 million general fundraising goal by supporting a $10 million government / foundation portfolio.
- Maintain shared Grants Calendar in order to track schedules and due dates for info sessions, proposals, applications, LOIs, etc.
- Assist with leading internal cross-team kick-off meetings to ensure accurate and complete information transfer from pre-award application to post-award grants management.
- Provide stewardship and build strong relationships with grant donors as needed to support future renewal conversations.
- Interview and work closely with Programs, Operations, and Data teams to understand program and service updates, changes, impact metrics, and data, in order to write compelling narratives, proposals, and reports.
- Maintain current records in Raiser’s Edge database including grant application prospecting, tracking, and stewardship.
- Assist with other Development projects as requested.
