Mary’s Place provides safe and inclusive shelter and services for women, children and families on their journey out of homelessness. We operate a women’s day center and several 24x7 family centers/shelters in King County. We serve hundreds of families – moms, dads, and children, providing a safe place for them to be inside and together at night, along with food, showers, clothing, and access to housing and employment resources. Position Description
The Temporary Facilities Technician works in collaboration with the Facilities Manager and the facilities team to assist women and families experiencing homelessness, ensuring our buildings are safe and well maintained by identifying hazards, troubleshooting, and performing repairs.
This role involves filling in the gaps at all locations for coverage and high priority repairs. Locations are throughout King County, including Seattle, Burien, and Bellevue. This temporary role has an hourly wage starting at $28/Hr. DOE. The schedule is Tuesday - Saturday, with flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. The hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The position begins as soon as possible and is expected to end mid to late June 2025.
This Temporary Facilities Technician position reports to the Facilities Manager and does not supervise other staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with Mary’s Place Facilities Manager and Site Directors to ensure optimal functioning of shelter systems including, but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general carpentry, custodial, locks and hardware, pest control, laundry facilities and security
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance to building and systems, including plumbing, electrical, mattresses and bed frames, and all Mary’s Place owned equipment (lawn care equipment, mechanical tools)
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repairs
- Report problems/issues to the Facilities Manager, recommends solutions and estimates
- Assist volunteers providing maintenance services such as cleaning, painting, and landscaping
- Supervise contractors and vendors as they relate to maintenance
- Perform set up and take down of special events
- Provide snow removal and landscaping as needed
- Maintain a calm demeanor and model positive behavior
- Communicate regularly with other staff members to ensure consistency
- Attend staff meetings
Requirements
Skills/Qualifications
- Work experience related to project management, vendor management, facilities and/or maintenance
- Must have valid Washington driver’s license, own reliable vehicle with current insurance and the ability to travel to all organization locations on demand
- Knowledge of plumbing and related repairs
- Able to perform basic electrical work and determine when an electrician is needed
- Must prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks
- Self-motivated, possessing a high level of organization
- Experience using standard power tools and non-powered tools
- Education/experience in social services, social work, education, or related field desired
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications
- Sensitivity to the needs of guests who are homeless, low-income, limited English speaking, or impacted by domestic violence, substance abuse or other barriers to employment
- Commitment to diversity and an ability to work well with diverse family styles and populations
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Applicants must provide proof of vaccination status
- Willing to take a TB test within 30 days of hire

- Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of siting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required.
- Travel to program sites and meetings outside the office and around the county are necessary.
- Efforts like attention to detail, interacting with others in-person and through email, using critical thinking skills to strategize, develop and implement business plans, create and edit documents, listen and participate verbally at meetings.

Mary's Place offers the following benefits to temporary full-time staff:
- 403(b) plan with a 50% employer match on the first 6% employee contribution. Eligible to participate upon hire; eligible for the match after first year of employment.
- Unlimited use ORCA pass for a small deduction per pay period
- 10 days paid time off (PTO) each calendar year (accrued by pay period)
- 10 days of sick time each calendar year (accrued by pay period)
- 10 days of flexible floating holidays each calendar year (accrued 40 hours on January 1st and 40 hours on July 1st). Prorated based on date of hire for first year of employment.
