What are the responsibilities and job description for the Game Operations/Administrative Internship (Jan-Apr/May) position at Maryland Black Bears Hockey?
This is an unpaid position. Candidates who wish to obtain college credit should provide Team President/Event Manager with all necessary paperwork at least 1 week prior to start date.
Job Description
We’re looking for energetic, enthusiastic volunteer interns to assist our Tier 2 junior
hockey team, the Maryland Black Bears, with our game operations for the 2024-25
season. This internship will provide those who desire a career in the sports and/or live
events with an opportunity to learn the event management and business side of our
hockey organization. Interns will gain valuable career experience as well as enjoying
networking opportunities in the process. The ideal candidate is someone with strong
time management skills and attention to detail as well as a “team first” mentality.
Duties
o Coordinate on ice intermission activities with participants
o Ideate compelling ideas for fan activities
o Reviewing rules and requirements
o Collecting signed waivers
o Execute activities with guidance from Event Manager
o Ensure all safety guidelines are followed
o Communicate winner’s name and contact information to Event Manager
o Assist with guest services table
o Ensure (rubber) fish are ready to be thrown, dried out post game
o Bag and log “Chuck-A-Pucks” and have ready for distribution
o Assist in setting up and tearing down on game days
o Prep play by play announcer with relevant team information
o Review and compile statistics
o Contribute during broadcast as needed
o Help with the distribution of giveaways to fans
o Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
o At least 18 years old
o High school diploma or equivalent
o Must maintain a professional appearance at all times
o Ability to attend specifically scheduled home games as well as any pre-
game meetings (includes nights, weekends, and holidays)o Must have reliable transportation
o Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
o Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
o Must be able to walk up and down stairs, and on the ice surface
o Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
o Must be able to follow a script and be alert at all times during games
Preferred Qualifications
o College/university student who is seeking practicum or internship credit
or someone who seeks more volunteering experience
o Strong interest in sport management, onsite operations, event
planning, event production, marketing or related field
o Prior experience working or volunteering in sports or live events
About Us
The Maryland Black Bears are a Tier 2 Junior Hockey Team based in Odenton, MD.
Our players, aged 16-21, are amateur players from the United States and Canada who
seek to increase their skills and maturity to play next at the NCAA Collegiate D1 level.
The team competes in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). We host 9 teams in
our division over 14 home game weekends (28 games) from September through April/May.
