Introduction
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) provides support to state agencies, the Executive Office of the Governor, the Governor’s coordinating offices, and a variety of independent agencies within the Executive Branch.
Striving to provide the highest level of customer service to its internal and external customers, DoIT supports Maryland’s agencies and commissions through its leadership and strategic direction for Information Technology and Telecommunications, establishing a long range, target technology architecture, encouraging cross agency collaboration and advocating best practices for operations and project management.
Main Purpose
The AI/ML Senior Program Manager will lead efforts to enhance AI literacy and capability across the state of Maryland by organizing trainings, facilitating a state-wide AI community, and supporting high-level partnerships. Drive AI initiatives through governance processes, operationalize team outputs, and embed best practices into state procurement in collaboration with AI leadership.
They will substantially increase the capacity and throughput of DoIT and the AI Subcabinet’s AI Enablement efforts to support agency needs at greater scale and effectively execute on the State’s AI strategy - a core priority area for the Governor’s office.

Position Duties
- Improve MD’s state-wide “AI IQ” by strengthening and expanding AI literacy efforts, driving expanded AI-focused trainings, organizing and facilitating the state-wide AI community-of-practice, helping conceptualize and execute high-level partnerships efforts and quarterly events, and other relevant activities.
- Drive AI-related projects and requests through DoIT’s emerging intake and governance processes, and work with other DoIT stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement and streamlining of that process. Do so from the perspective of both an SME and good operations.
- Help turn “incubated” AI Enablement Team (AET) outputs (eg - governance cards) into offerings operationalized and owned by relevant teams, or material available on DoIT’s website or other forums, and ensure the team updates those outputs on an ongoing cadence, including the AI Inventory.
- Embed best practices around governance and product, in close collaboration with the AI/ML Policy & Governance Director and AI/ML Product Director, into state procurement artifacts and workflows.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: Five years of Experience as a operations leader who has worked as a senior program manager with technical teams in government in the past.
- Familiarity with the emerging AI landscape and has foundational familiarity with the technology, the “art of the possible”, and is proficient with its use.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on a team performing “enablement” functions around AI.
Salary : $130,000 - $140,000
