 The MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Facility Maintenance Supervisor I within the Office of Facilities Maintenance at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).


   Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Supervising building maintenance technicians and skilled tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters, painters, welder, locksmith, mason, sign fabricators, and electricians in the building maintenance section.
  • Performing general and specialized administrative duties such as,
     reviews and approves leave requests; counsels’ employees, writes inter departmental reports, attends meetings, and corresponds with upper level supervisors and other departments on the daily activities at the BWI Marshall Airport.
  • Maintaining safe operating practices and enforces same through building maintenance inspections, writing, and following up on work orders through the automated work order system.

 

 This position is an emergency essential position.  All employees designated as emergency essential are required to be available to work during weather, operational and/or disaster emergency conditions. Furthermore, this position requires work in a 24- hour facility and you must be available to work any shift as required by the operational needs of the MAA. 

 This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD 

Education:  Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  Five years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance or skilled trades work.  One year of this experience must have been in a lead worker or crew leader capacity. **This experience must include at least two years of maintenance work involving interacting with the public in large facilities or maintaining outdoor grounds.  

*This statement contains a Selective Qualification, which is more focused in scope than the Minimum Qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skills, or abilities). 

Notes:  

1.  Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.1.  Employees applying for the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I classification may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated, that may be required for continued employment.  This includes obtaining and maintaining a valid US DOT Medical Card (or MVA-issued waiver) every two years.  Note:  Employees must meet all Department of Budget and Management policies required for operation of State-owned vehicles.

2.  Candidates and promotional employees hired into the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I classification may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements during the probationary period.

3.  Employees may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.

4.  Employees seeking transfer to another administration may be required to satisfy that administration's training and certification program requirements.

5.  Maryland Aviation Administration employees assigned to the BWI Airport must obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 11.03.01.04, Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area, prior to permanent appointment.
 1.  Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform and supervise maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters in tunnels, underground and in buildings. 

2.  Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility.  Employees are
subject to call in and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link at their own expense for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.

3.  Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium may be required to undergo periodic medical testing, pass hazardous materials training, and have the ability to wear a respirator. 

4.  Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.

5.  Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

6.  Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
