The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is recruiting for a Police Communications Operator. The Police Communications Operator will perform assigned duties in the Technical Services Division. Personnel are required to multi-task, have excellent communications skills, and to be a self-starter. Employees are responsible for receiving, reviewing, transmitting, interpreting, tracking, and recording law enforcement communications. The work involves the operation of a 700 MHZ statewide multi-channel radio system and NCIC system; answering a multi-line telephone system, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), and a computerized law enforcement and administrative information retrieval. These duties are performed in a fast-paced environment.
This position is located in Baltimore City, Maryland.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate or a General Education Diploma (GED).

SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
Note : Applicants will be required to pass a typing test (35 words per minute) to determine the adequacy of their qualifications. Applicants must pass a job skill assessment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employees in this position will be required to attend and pass a two-day NCIC CN1 course; after completion of this course, personnel will be certified in NCIC.
- Employees in this position must be able to work 40 hours per week and must be able to work variable shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends based on the needs of the Maryland Transit Administration Police.
- Employees may be subject to emergency on-call 24 hours a day and may be required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone or pager) for the purpose of emergency call back requirements; the work is performed indoors; however, employees will be assigned to satellite sites upon the needs of the department.
