The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Office of Materials Technology is currently recruiting for a Materials Technician (Transportation Engineering Technician III) position in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work:  The main purpose of this position is to assist the Area Materials Engineer and Materials Engineer with ensuring that the proposed sources for materials used on state projects are acceptable to SHA. This position reviews and evaluates material clearance documents for both ongoing and completed projects to ensure that all materials were inspected, tested, or certified in accordance with specifications. This position also organizes and prioritizes material clearance estimates for data entry into Materials Management System Database.

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Selective Qualification: One and half (1 ½) years of the required experience must have
 involved construction materials on highway and/or bridge projects.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal skill working with diverse internal and external customers 
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling, and prioritizing skills.
Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

2. Applicants who possess an Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Surveying or Surveying Technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
